Have you ever wondered about your life’s purpose? Wouldn’t it be amazing to know you’re exactly where God wants you to be? You’re not alone.

Wondering About Your Lifes Purpose 1

All over the world, people—young and old—are asking the same questions:

  • Why am I here?
  • What difference can I make?
  • How do I find God’s will for my life?

If you’ve ever wrestled with these thoughts, take heart—you’re in good company. Many of us want to make a difference in the lives of others, but we’re unsure how to start when we feel stuck ourselves. The good news? God doesn’t expect you to have it all figured out. He simply calls you to walk it out, one step of obedience at a time.

From Brokenness to Purpose: My Story

When I was 17, my life took a turn I never expected. I found myself pregnant and alone. The dreams I had for my future—college, career, and family—all felt shattered. I dropped out of school, and I spent most days sleeping and crying, convinced I had messed up my life for good.

But even in my darkest moments, I remembered something my Sunday School teacher once told me—that Jesus loves me. Desperate, I prayed a simple prayer:

“God, I’ve screwed up big time. If You can do anything with my life, please do.”

That small, imperfect prayer opened a door to hope. Change didn’t come overnight, but it came. It started when I opened my Bible and, little by little, started to believe that God’s promises applied to me.

I didn’t have a ten-year plan or a clear roadmap. What I did have was God’s Word and the invitation to take the next obedient step. First, I forgave myself. Then, God opened my eyes to the needs of others—teen moms like me who were struggling to find hope. Later, He called my husband and me to adopt. None of these were my plans, but every step of obedience led to a life I never dreamed possible.

What’s Your Story?

Maybe your story looks nothing like mine—or maybe it does. Either way, God’s purpose for your life is just as unique as you are. And the only way to discover it is by walking it out, one faithful step at a time.

As I share in my book Walk It Out: The Radical Results of Living God’s Word One Step at a Time, God rarely reveals the whole picture at once. Instead, He asks us to trust Him moment by moment. Each act of obedience opens the door to the next, and before you know it, you’re living the very story God wrote just for you.

“Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.”
—Psalm 119:105

5 Ways to See God’s Purpose in Your Life

If you’re longing to discover God’s plan for your life, here are five ways to start seeing His purpose unfold:

1. Spend Time in God’s Word

God’s will is found in His Word. The Bible is more than just stories from the past; it’s God’s roadmap for how to live today. When you regularly read and study scripture, you’ll begin to recognize His voice and direction in your life.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” —Proverbs 3:5-6

2. Start Serving Where You Are

God’s purpose often reveals itself when we step outside ourselves and serve others. You don’t need a perfect plan—just a willing heart. Whether it’s volunteering at your church, reaching out to a struggling neighbor, or encouraging a friend, service has a way of uncovering God’s greater call.

“Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” —1 Peter 4:10

3. Be Open to Divine Detours

Sometimes God’s purpose looks nothing like our plans. Be willing to follow God’s nudges, even when they lead you somewhere unexpected. The greatest adventures of faith often begin with small, uncomfortable steps.

“A person may plan his own journey, but the Lord directs his steps.” —Proverbs 16:9

4. Embrace the Waiting Seasons

Purpose isn’t always about activity. Sometimes God’s plan includes seasons of rest, healing, or preparation. Don’t mistake silence for absence—God is always at work.

“Be still, and know that I am God.” —Psalm 46:10

5. Trust God with the Outcome

You may not see the full picture, but God does. Release your fear, perfectionism, and the need to control. Trust that God is writing a beautiful story, even if you only see the next sentence.

“And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished.” —Philippians 1:6

In Walk It Out, I share more of my story—including how God led me to start a crisis pregnancy center, adopt children, and write over 85 books. None of these things were on my original to-do list, but each act of obedience opened the door to the next.
